This was a piece created during an artist residency that I proposed to do with my two preschool-aged children. I had read some about Cy Twombly riding on another man to do a drawing and wanted to see if I could somehow replicate that with my kids. I loved the result being this awkward, gestural act of my 75-year-old mother, supporting this 5-year-old on my 42-year-old shoulders, to try and create one work. The coaxing and final freedom of movement really spoke to me about what being an artist and a mother has been.
