Flocking Fibers, Children's Toys, on Canvas

3' x 5'

During the last year of quarantine our home became our whole world. I was desperate to control what I could in our small space mothering my 6 yo and 3 yo. I felt like I was drowning in trash and dirt and toys. Every weekend I felt like I was taking out bags of parenting detritus.

My work explores the things parents decide to keep and what they throw away. Flocking is a powdered fiber used inside jewelry boxes, shadow boxes, and spaces for sentimental keepsakes. This artwork plays with the back and forth of wanting to keep all these objects as memories and the realization that a lot of this is trash that will slowly decompose long after my family is gone.
