Mom Life In The ICU, January 2020

24”x30”

Although I created this piece before the pandemic, it highlights what I continued to fear throughout the trauma of COVID. Being a parent of a medically complex child who has a compromised immune system, I started from a place of heightened fears which were only intensified when everything shut down. The time I spent while my daughter fought for her life had an unending rhythm in an unrelenting fog, and the time in the pandemic often felt the same. Sometimes I could only look at the next moment in front of me, and just keep telling myself to keep going, keep going, keep going, and to breathe. Only once the initial trauma has passed, can I rest, but even then it is only until I am re-traumatized. As time goes by, and things settle, I relax more; but this piece is always there to remind me how bad things could be.
