Bald Spot, summer 2020

This is a short video filmed in the backyard of our apartment building in Chicago, IL. Here, you see my (then) 4 year old son repeatedly kicking off the ground to propel himself forward on the hammock. Toward the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the weather started to warm up, we relied heavily on this tiny backyard. It was a place to be outside, yet still safely isolated from others. We developed new routines here, which at first provided the comfort that comes with familiarity. And then there were parts of this new routine that created what still feel like bald spots in the grass from a single movement performed too many times.
